Your iPhone can create 3D photos. Don’t believe it? Try Seene

Take photos, share photos, photo filters are you still awake? Although it’s a popular pastime, taking photos with your iPhone is nothing special. Anyone can do it, even two year old kids, and only the extremely talented can get something that is truly extraordinary.

That doesn’t mean you have to stop taking photos with your iPhone. It just means you need to take 3D shots, too. How? With Seene.

What is Seene?

Seene is a relatively new app that takes a different approach to iPhone photography. Here are the best apps the App Store has new for iPhoneography? Here are the best apps new to the App Store The popularity of the iPhone for photos is due to several things – the convenience of having your “camera” with you at all times and the variety of shooting, editing and sharing apps. No longer point and shoot – you can now shoot with purpose, move your camera around, and get a 3D result that you can view from four different angles.

Sound like a gimmick? That’s because it is, but it’s surprisingly cool.

Can your Instagram photos do this? I don’t think so. And they’re not even that hard to take.

Take 3D photos

Seene isn’t completely self-explanatory – you need to know how to use it – but luckily, an excellent video tutorial is included with the app. When you first launch, you have the choice of exploring the environment, creating an account, or diving into reality. I chose to dive in head first.

When you first tap the camera button, the tutorial starts automatically and tells you exactly what to do. You can replay it at a later time using the help section.

In a nutshell, here’s how to take 3D photos with Seene: Find an object, make sure it has lots of green dots, and rotate (don’t pan!) your device around it until all four segments are green.

This is easier with some objects than others. For example, I tried to photograph my mouse as it sat on the table, but gave up after 5 failed attempts. This robot, however, worked on the first try. Seene helps you with helpful tips on what to do and what you are doing wrong.

Once all green segments are full, Seene will automatically start processing the image and present the final result. Turn your device from side to side to see a different angle of the subject. You can give your image a caption, share it on Seene, Facebook and Twitter, or just save it locally without sharing it.

How easy is it really?

Creating 3D photos is as simple as advertised. As long as you find an object with many points, you shouldn’t have too many problems. However, it is not that easy to make them perfect.

The 3D photos I created were all extremely cool, but some of them came out… less than perfect.

After looking at some examples of good results and realizing that the main problem with my background was the background, I concluded that the best photos are taken when a relatively uniform background is used, although it doesn’t have to be an easy one . If your background is all over the place, you get weird things like the screenshots above.

Despite the distorted background, most of the 3D images I took were pretty impressive.

Explore and share

Just like Instagram, Seene is also a platform to share photos and create them. You can explore other users’ photos via the Explore tabs and search for interesting things via the search box. Some people do really great stuff, so it’s really worth your time. It also allows you to use other people’s photos as a reference to better understand how to get the best results. Since the app is still new, there aren’t that many photos to explore, but more are being added every minute.

When you create an account, you can share your own creations with the community. You can also find interesting users and follow them. The Feed tab will show all the new additions. Seene profiles are pretty bare: you have your username, you can add a short blurb and an avatar.

Other things you should know

At the moment Seene is only available for iPhone, although it worked wonderfully on my iPad Mini. There also seems to be an issue for iPhone 5s users, but this should be fixed soon.

The results you get with the apps are impressive, but the user interface can be a bit confusing at first glance. It’s also not very stable – it crashed and hung on me several times, but that could be because I was using an iPad.

Create 3D photos! You want it too

All in all, Seene is one of the best apps I’ve used in a long time. It’s not particularly pretty, but you can so easily create photos you’ve never taken before. If you own an iOS device, I highly recommend giving this app a spin.

In addition, there are some phones like the HTC Evo 3D that come with two cameras on the back.
