iPhone 14 – ‘notch’ disappears, but not from all models of new flagship

Korean portal The Elec, citing sources in the Apple supply chain, reports that not all iPhone 14 models will have a hole in the screen instead of a notch. Such a change will only apply to two Pro models.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with “punch hole”

The first about Apple’s intention to get rid of the notch in the iPhone as early as 2022 was already reported a few months ago by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. According to his information at the time, there was a possibility that the distinctive screen notch would disappear from the screens of all four iPhone 14 models.

Now The Elec reports that the “punch hole” – a circular cutout in the screen, known from some Android smatphones, will be found only in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The two cheaper models – the iPhone 14 and the 6.7″ iPhone Max (which is expected to replace the “mini” version) – will still feature the notch screen.

The small circular hole in the screens of the Pro models is expected to house the FaceTime camera lens. Other elements of the FaceID chip, responsible for biometric verification of the user, are to go under the screen.

In recent months, the information about replacing the notch by a hole in the screen was confirmed by several other reliable sources, such as Bloomberg and John Prosser.

What else do we know about the iPhone 14?

From previous reports we know that next year Apple is going to abandon the iPhone mini size, and in its place release the iPhone 14 Max with a screen diagonal the same as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, that is equal to 6.7 inches.

In addition, the iPhone 14s are expected to have a titanium bezel (probably only Pro models), a 48 MP rear camera, and an A16 Bionic processor.

Jon Prosser also suggested that the rear cameras will not protrude above the casing, and the iPhone 14 itself will be slightly thicker than current models.
